Breast Cancer Awareness Month
To my dear family and friends of WLA… For the past 15 years, during October Breast Cancer Awareness month, I post my Mom’s journey with breast cancer. Her story is a reminder for early detection in surviving breast cancer.
I went back and forth on whether or not to share my now own personal story. Recently, I discovered 2 pea-sized lumps in my breast. I already had scheduled my annual mammogram, which was coming up.
I always schedule around my birthday so I remember to do the mammogram every year. I was redirected to a diagnostic mammogram. From there I went right in for an ultrasound and with much surprise a biopsy on both lumps. So here I am, 3 weeks later from finding small lumps to being diagnosed with breast cancer. I don’t know all the details of the treatment plan at this point. The surgeon feels good I caught the cancer early but I still have several diagnostic tests to go.
So this year I share my own story with you with my whole heart knowing I’m not alone in this fight against this terrible disease. I stand beside you my fellow moms, sisters and friends with the same message. Do self breast exams, get regular mammograms, and take care of each other. The fight is real!!!
